Required publications for project submission

Is it required to deploy my project to a public canister or are private submissions possible? I wonder how much I need to care about legal concerns if I participate.

    As far as I understand the rules, private submissions might be fine:
    "“Project” means the materials and content that you submit (or desire to submit) to the Foundation for review and/or consideration by the Hackathon Judging Panel under these Terms."
    It would be great to get some official feedback.

    Hey Julian - it is possible to keep the submissions private (open sourcing is not mandatory)!
